Hello and Goodbye
It’s been 10 incredible years since I launched Elle Evans Swimwear. Back then, it was just a pipe dream in a world where sustainability in fashion was a novel concept. I wanted to create something that didn’t just follow trends, but actually made a positive impact. As time went on, consumers, wholesalers, marketers—heck, the world—started to catch up, and sustainable fashion became less of a fringe idea and more of a movement. While the landscape has changed, I’ll always be grateful for the decisions I made in the beginning.
I chose a made-to-order model so we wouldn’t end up with warehouses full of unsold stock. No surplus goods getting sold at a discount just to get rid of them, only to feel like a failure. I opted for fabric using Econyl®️ nylon, regenerating waste instead of adding to the pile. I kept production local and small, manufacturing in-house whenever possible to minimize our footprint. And I kept the team lean—we never had more than four people, but we worked like we were twelve.
Looking back, I guess I should feel bittersweet, but honestly, the strongest emotion right now is pride. And those of you who know me well know I don’t say that lightly. I’m so damn proud of everything we’ve accomplished with this company. I want to thank each and every one of you, for the support, the love, the feedback, every engagement with you guys gave me that happy little spark in my chest. I’m endlessly grateful to Ethically Kate and Good On You who have championed EE from day one and kept me going when it all felt too hard.
And if you’ll indulge me, I’d very much like to thank those close to me who allowed this company to happen. My beautiful friends who I lent on for help, advice, modelling, photography, admin and therapy. To Tanya who put so much of herself into EE so it would grow. To my darling sister who built my first website. And to Michael, who supported my wildest dreams and who continues to…
